Thanks for reminding me about Code Name Verity. I need to check to see if the library has it. And I've heard of The Janissary Tree but didn't realize it was a mystery. That also sounds up my alley. Even though you're not familiar enough with the culture to tell if it's an accurate portrayal, your antennae are sensitive enough that I expect you would sense if it was openly exploitative. The dialect business with the Greek character sounds condescending, but I can live with that, and as I'm thinking about it, if it's narrated by a Turk, or a Turk is the POV character, putting down a Greek character in that way is culturally accurate given the enmity between the two groups.
